Caxton Coffee Shop

Huron near Prospect and E. 9th. Cleveland, OH. More expensive than P.J.’s—kind to too nice—but great long counter w/yellow boomerang design. Grill etc. behind counter—Cleveland art on walls (photos/drawings). Foreign people owners—great waitresses—I get spaghetti and sausage special—$3.75—but REAL good. It’s 1-2pm on Wednesday—empty (blizzard outside). REAL cheap breakfast specials.

Hm... I'm not sure if this place is still there or not - I'll definitely have to check it out though, it sounds pretty cool.

It reminds me of these other places that used to be in odd spots downtown. In fact one of them was called 'THE SPOT' which was like a lunch counter that seemed to be in a phone-booth-sized storefront, with about 2 seats at a counter - I can't really remember where it was now.

Also, this place up by Cleveland State on Euclid called the 'Hi Luncheonette' or maybe 'Hi's Luncheonette' - it had a relly cool big horseshoe-shaped counter and a few booths, I think.. I ate there a few times in the early 90s, not too bad - mostly it seems like the place itself was like a weirdly retro leftover from like the 50s or 60s. Maybe you've got these in your archives and will have notes on them coming up..
